Don’t Go On Vacation To Greece Without Me! Part 1-Mykonos

Hello all my lovely peeps!

I think it is no secret that I am Greek-American….and really damn proud of it. My constant Greek references to mythology, philosophy, and the grandeur of Ancient Greece, as well as my annoying reminders “That is a Greek word” probably rank me as the most obnoxious person in a 1000 kilometre radius.

It is also no secret that I specialise in the 4 F’s as I like to call them: Food, Fun, Fashion, and Fitness. There is another F, but I am keeping this post PG đŸ™‚

As vacation is all about those “F’s”, I wanted to share my experiences of my lovely countries with all of you. There is nothing better than a vacation with the top tips of a local. I hate surprises, so when I go on holiday, I want to do as the locals and not get caught up in some tourist trap.

Starting of with Greece….

Best Island that combines the 4 F’s:
Mykonos

Mykonos has amazing beaches, great food, great hotels, and is great for seeing and being seen. A favourite of the gypsetters, jetsetters, and trend setters. Best time to go is end of May until end of June or end of August to mid September. By the way, Mykonos is as much of a gay island as Amsterdam is a gay city. Just saying….this misconception annoys me.

My top picks for Mykonos are:

1) Beaches : Panormos, Psarrou, Kalo Livadi, Paraga, Super Paradise. If you want to party on the beach, Super Paradise is probably your best bet, unless you attend one of the myriad(that is a greek word) parties over the summer. These are all organised beaches with loungers, bars, restaurants on site, etc. I don’t like to rough it. If you want a “virgin” beach, go to Ag. Sosti or Elia(the nudist part)

2) Bars & Clubs: I love going to Remezzo, Caprice, Scarpa(get a Mojito. Best ever!), and the lovely little bars in ” Little Venice”- Galleraki is my fave. Stay away from the tourist traps in the centre of town. If the name of the bar sounds “inauthentic” then it probably is. Best clubs are Astra and Cavo Paradiso. DJ Junior Rush spins there and he is awesome! Cavo Paradiso hosts some of the worlds top DJ’s. It is also a very, very after hours place. Party usually starts there after 3am.

3) Restaurants: As the huge food obsessed person I am, these are the must visit restaurants on the island….. Spilia in Ag. Anna(get the lobster pasta), Hippie Fish, Nikolas Taverna in Ag. Anna(get the lasagna or moussaka and cheesecake), and Nammos at Psarrou Beach(get the eggplant millefeuille). There is also a Nobu restaurant at the Belvedere hotel if you want some sushi. You also must eat a crepe while you are on the island. Ham and cheese or Nutella and banana!

It is in a cave...for real. And you will eat right on the sea. Amazing!

4) Hotels: If you want to party hardy while you are on the island, I recommend that you stay in town. Cavo Tagoo is a great hotel that is walking distance from the centre. Some other great choices are the K Collection Hotels, St. John, and Ammos. Another great idea is to rent a house, as this gives you much more independence. If you choose this option, hook up with my dear friend Kat at Mykonos Top Villas and she can help you with your experience.

For me, Mykonos is paradise on earth. I have gone every summer since I was around 18 and I hope to go until I am 118 đŸ™‚ More tips to come soon….
