Coming back from Venice just yesterday, full of beautiful images and inspiration, I wanted to share it with you…Wow, do those Italians have finesse. After my last post on men, I received lots of feedback that all you guys are interested in what you actually should wear. Being very much influenced by Tom Ford’s top 10 list, I will keep it simple, yet sharp for building your capsule wardrobe:
1) Crisp, white button down shirt. Not just one. If you like it, buy 2 or 3. Make sure it fits well and hugs your body. Brooks Brothers makes a great one in many different cuts. Huge plus-it doesn’t wrinkle.
2) Perfect pair of dark jeans. Don’t get me wrong, I love many variations and styles of denim, however, the all time classic is the dark jean which will be your go to item for years to come.
3) Blazer. I know, you are probably thinking ” WTF!! With the gold buttons and anchors?”. But check out my example below. Start out with the classic colours, and then build your way up. Will never let you down when you want to look polished or have a hot date.
4) Beautiful suit in charcoal(that means grey) or navy. Brown is tricky, so I would only recommend it if you know your stuff. Black is outdated and best kept for funerals. If you are fair, go for the grey. If you are darker, navy is your best bet.
5) Classic Wool Coat. In a simple colour like black, navy, or tan-which is my all time favourite. Nothing says ” I got my shit together” like than a camel colour coat…in my book at least.
6) Leather Jacket. Ideal style is the classic bomber or motorcycle. Preferably black, but brown is nice as well.
7) A few great pairs of classic shoes:
8) Basic black and basic white tshirts. Make sure they are of superior quality and super soft. Hottest thing a guy can wear is jeans, tshirt, and leather jacket.
9) Classic Knitwear. Can be a cardigan, crew neck, or v-neck. Get the best quality you can afford(cashmere is always my favourite). JCrew makes great ones. Will dress up or down any outfit…and will keep you warm as well.
10) Accessory that becomes a signature. Could be a scarf, hat, sunglasses, watch, etc. Find something you love, and wear the shit out of it. ” You know that guy, the one that always wears the really nice jean jacket/sunglasses/scarf/watch….”
So men…after all these tips, here is my final one to you. You should always look like you bought your clothes with intelligence, put them on with care, and then forgotten all about them. There should be a casual, masculine, nonchalance to your style.
Lots of love,
Mimi
